HAINES CITY BECOMES NEW COVID19 VACCINE POD
Florida Division of Emergency Management has collaborated with the Florida Department of Health to ensure the rapid distribution of vaccines to Florida residents. To do this, a Vaccination Distribution Center "POD" has been coordinated with the City of Haines City.
Vaccination Distribution Center in Haines City will take place Thursday, March 18 – Tuesday, March 23 at Oakland Community Center located at 1008 Avenue D, Haines City, Florida.
"Mayor West and the City Commission are honored to host another vaccination site in our City. Although this FEMA site is available to all citizens of Florida, we continue to make sure the residents on the eastside and in particular Haines City have access to the services needed to stop the spread of this virus," said Deric C. Feacher, City Manager. "We also applaud the work of Congressman Soto District 9 and his staff, who have been instrumental in making sure testing and vaccinations are available to individuals of this district and the State of Florida."
According to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, this federally supported site can administer up to 500 vaccines per day. The site will be open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and is a walk-up location. The Haines City POD will be first-come, first-served only, and appointments will not be made.
Qualifications to receive vaccination are available for the following populations as outlined in Governor Ron DeSantis's Executive Order #21-62:
• Long-term care facility residents and staff
• Persons 60 years of age and older
• Persons determined to be extremely vulnerable by a physician (form required);
• Health care personnel with direct patient contact
• K-12 school employees 50 years of age and older
• Sworn law enforcement officers 50 years of age and older
• Firefighters 50 years of age and older.
"During this pandemic, we need to stay vigilant, and I encourage all residents who meet the requirements to be vaccinated as soon as possible. This is not only to protect you but your family and your friends as well. As the Mayor of Haines City, I implore you to contact your neighbors and encourage them to visit the vaccination site as we continue to do what is necessary to return normalcy to our daily lives," said Mayor Morris West.
